Thanks for that, Joy. Sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment; I hadn't been looking 'cos I did not realise one could leave comments here! Sketching has taken a little of a back seat recently as I am actually producing some new sculptures/carvings.

As a source of income Russell illustrates books, mainly science texts; he also edits and typesets these and other material for print.

Woodcarving is his main form of artistic expression, something he has developed for over 25 years as time and commissions have allowed. Subjects range wide, from contemporary designs to ideas drawn from medieval marginal carving and ethnic themes. He has sometimes accepted commissions for inscriptions and furniture restoration.

Russell keeps a sketch journal and, arising from this, has developed the skills to bind hard-cased sketchbooks and journals using only high quality papers and other acid-free materials. These books are for sale and can also be commissioned if a customer has particular requirements.
